Porte Saint-Jacques

Built at the beginning of the 13th century, at the northern entrance to the city (which then had 4 gates), the Saint-Jacques gate, as its name suggests, opens onto a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The vaulted passage, framed by two almond-shaped towers, was defended by a portcullis and a stunner (pierced in the vault). It is surmounted by a guard room, accessible by a spiral staircase leading to the parapet walk of the neighbouring wall.
